Walking 5 Miles!

My dad and I have been walking every Saturday, trying to reach 5 miles per walk. So far we have done 4.1, 4.1, 4.5 miles each walk. It has been hot but we bring water. The first time was really hard but it is getting easier!

UPDATE: On October 13, we walked 5.83 miles at one time!

Biography #3: Christina Aguilera

This week I read a book about Christina Aguilera. Christina María Aguilera, who was born December 18, 1980 is an singer and and actress. She grew up in New York and Pittsburgh. She is also part of the judges panel on the TV show, The Voice.

She faced many problems when she was young in her family and at school, like bullying kids who were jealous of her talent in singing. Christina kept going and practicing singing until she became very good. When she was younger, she was known as “the little girl with the big voice.” She was once a Mouseketeer and later sang one of the songs on the Disney movie Mulan. This really moved her career to new heights. Soon more and more people came to love her voice and stage show. She nows helps many people get better at singing!

Last Quad for me – Quad 3

My last UBBT form quad was September 16, so I am finished with quads. It was a fun one, forms and boards. I did good on the forms and did the boards too. On the boards I did the front kick, side kick, and knee strike. The hardest part was the 2 mile run! Lots of hills and it was so hot! This is what it was like (I am right beside Andres!).

Attack of the Mosquito eating fish!

When we dug the little pond for the rice in the backyard, we had lots of baby mosquitos. We bought a bunch of goldfish from the pet store to eat the mosquitos, and that worked! We also found a guy with a pond and he sold us some pond plants and some special mosquito-eating fish called Gambusia. They are minnows and now we have a bunch of them. My dad says that you can buy these online for a dollar each. We were going to sell them but not sure how that would work out. Instead we are going to release them into ponds and streams in this area. My dad says you have to be sure to check on which types of fish you can release in the wild. These are native to this area so it is OK. It is not OK to do this in some states though!

These fish will help control mosquitos where they live, so this is a good thing!

Updated Goals

We decided to update some of my goals from a couple months ago. Instead of reading a book a day, and writing a story a day during the summer, we decided to improve my mental math skills and to provide better descriptions when answering questions. We did keep most of the others though and mom and dad say I should be able to finish those goals by the time I get my black belt!
